Those of you who knew Steve as a robust musician, tuba and piano player will be sorry to hear that he has been stricken with a severe form of Parkinson's disease called Multiple Systems Atrophy.
He can be reached at Alden Valley Ridge in Bloomingdale or through his family at 1716 Norwood Ave. Apt 508, Itasca 60143 c/o Tricia Marcus
He was such a good person and very knowledgeable, participated a bunch on the old site. It is so sad to see him suffer.

I shed a tear when I saw this.
He's had to deal with some family issues that he never discussed online when he was healthy, and he's such a very kind person.
I picked him up and took him along with me riding shotgun on one of my bloke-conservatory trips to study with three different orchestral tuba masters (all approximately directly north of me).

I chatted with him several times over the years, and he was always kind and generous with sharing his knowledge, and just overall a really nice guy. I hope he gets the best palliative care... But damn, I'm so sorry to hear this.
IIRC, he's not particularly old...?

He also ran the Wessex showroom in Roselle (just outside Chicago) for awhile. Always nice to deal with, and sorry to see this befall him.

I forgot about that!
Somewhere, there's a "Jumbo Summit" photo of Steve, Jonathan, and someone else(??) -- all 3 playing their Jumbo sousaphones together. Would be nice to see that again if I can find it!

I sort of wish they hadn't published that picture but that's neither here nor there now. I'm glad someone else shared some videos of him at a happier time.

Yeah, I would maybe wonder if @russiantuba could pull that pic and just leave the text written on it in the body of the post.

Done. I am used to posting this from more primary sources because over the years, people have doubted or questioned the validity of similar things.

Different photo than I was thinking of, but very cool!
Ian Church
Steve Marcus
???
Dan Schultz
Who is the 3rd person? And whatever happened to Ian, he was so active for many years. I heard from Dan a few months ago, sounded like he was doing about the same as ever. :)

I was going to ask what happened to Ian. Last I saw, maybe 5 years ago on social media, he was in Arizona, had a new girlfriend, and was playing with several groups. Then, he disappeared on social media, haven’t seen him on here either. I hope he is doing well.

I'll call Dan Schultz every once in awhile.
I think he's doing remarkably well.

I feel weird going into minutia so quickly in this thread, but I think those bags are sort of designed after Soundwear bags which were much beefier.
