In the past, I had a no-dents and #2-trigger one of those.
I really enjoyed it, and now a friend is enjoying it.
When I was still trying to sell myself on the 6/4 thing, it was the most in-tune of all of the 6/4 things I ever owned.
A gig-colleague (as we were waiting for them to open the doors for another high-rollers casino trip-giveaway party) looked over, his eyes grew huge (as these things DO make quite a statement...), he pulled out his phone, and snapped this picture:

The trip (yeah...along with a car) they were giving away was a Rhine River cruise, so we played polkas and waltzes...
Thus, the hat was supposed to make a statement.
' no available lederhosen, so (minimally) hats.
These were the same six jazz musicians (minus banjo guitar + extra clarinet) who played every Saturday on those Mississippi River cruise ships in their upper deck lounges - while passengers were embarking.

of note: pricey rotary flugelhorn, and Mickey Mouse tie - in front of 1/3rd-larger-than-now tuba operator
guy on the left: owner of Memphis Drum Shop...any/all of your percussion colleagues know of it.
trombonist: retired lead player, Navy Commodores
factoid: 3rd-from-left retired from directing Christian Brothers High School band...the longest continuously-existing h.s. band (since 1872) in the nation

On the topic of Mr. Clement’s tuba, it looks fantastic!

Having played a RM 5/4 CC in the past, I think these are wonderful instruments with a somewhat unique color to the sound due to a somewhat unique approach to the bell taper. It reminds me of the (very large throat but normal final diameter) bells that were on some of those Benge flugelhorns. Likewise, those had a unique sound of their own.

Regardless of my nostalgia, whoever picks this up will have a fine tuba on their hands.

Yeah… I was only intending on posting once in this thread, and my emphasis was on how much better in tune it behaved for me than any other 6/4 C tubas I ever owned...

It’s intonation secret is obviously not the bell flare, being that it is remarkably similar to a 36J bell flare.

True or false -- Rudy tried to court AJ with the 5/4 CC (maybe a silly question, maybe everyone tried to court AJ with every big tuba).

Tony -- sorry, Powerball and Mega Millions both gave me the shaft this week. I won't be buying your tuba just yet.

Everybody tried to "court" Mr. Jacobs. I remember a Rudy in the Fine Arts Building Studio, it stayed there over the lessons I had there over a 3-4 year period. I think I've seen a couple of photos of it in the office.

If you are asking if he seriously considered playing a Rudy as "his" horn I would say no. Rudy Meinl tubas, in my rememberance, do not blow like the York tuba and Mr. Jacobs loved free blowing horns. A friend who plays for a living commenting on not using a Rudy he had been offered for sale in his orchestra saying, "it's a real air hog."

But you can probably find Brian Fredrickson somewhere on the Internet, he had more of a long-term association with Mr. Jacobs than anyone else that I know of. Ask him if you are really interested.

I believe that the cover of "Portrait of an Artist" showed him with a Rudy he kept in his studio. I have no first-hand knowledge, of course.
