Graduate Assistant – Tuba & Euphonium | The University of Akron

[CJBlaha]

Are you a strong tuba or euphonium player looking for a graduate program that will help you grow not only as a performer, but also as a teacher, musician, and leader?

I will have a Graduate Assistant – Tuba & Euphonium position available in my studio at The University of Akron beginning Fall 2027.

This is a two-year assistantship pursuing the Master of Music in Performance, with:

• $10,000 annual stipend
• Full-time tuition waiver
• Your own teaching load of 4–5 individual tuba/euphonium students
• Individual teaching experience with direct mentorship from me
• Opportunities to coach chamber music and work with other members of the studio
• Membership in the Graduate Brass Quintet
• Performance opportunities in UA bands, orchestra, brass choir, and other ensembles
• Ample professional performing and teaching opportunities throughout Northeast Ohio
• The opportunity to become an active part of a growing studio that currently includes 17 tuba and euphonium students

I’m looking for a strong tuba or euphonium player who is excited about music, teaching, performance, and leadership opportunities.

One of the things I value most about this position is the opportunity to gain real collegiate teaching experience while receiving consistent mentorship. You will have your own students and teaching responsibilities while working closely with me as you develop your own approach to teaching.

Auditions will take place January through mid-March 2027.

If you're currently a college senior and this sounds like something you'd be interested in, please reach out to me before the formal audition period. I'd be happy to talk with you about the program, the position, and whether The University of Akron might be a good fit for your graduate studies.
