Couesnon mouthpiece

Post by Yadent »

Was given a Couesnon Paris BBb #3 mouthpiece. Anyone have any knowledge regarding this mp?

I've had this Couesnon Mouthpiece since the late 70's. It's marked - "Couesnon" in an arc , and "BBb" on the opposite side. That's all.
It's smaller than my other mouthpieces, and I mostly use it on my Yamaha 103. I bought it because I thought it looked cool, but it seems to fit my face well, too.

The picture posted by Tim IS the mouthpiece. The i.d. via my crude measurement appears to be about 30mm

Yadent,
Have you tried it on your Eb horns? I've always wondered whether - being a small BBb piece - it might work well as a large Eb piece.

I have fooled around with it a bit on my newly acquired Besson 983. It actually seems to work for me on that instrument. Might keep it in the Besson mp 'stable'. The Wessex Danube gave me a outright NO. Same with the cimbasso.

In my opinion, Couesnon mouthpieces are underrated. To me, they appear engineered to the horn. I have a Couesnon flugel, and the only two mouthpieces that work on it, from all perspectives: tone, intonation, embouchure feel, etc., are the two Couesnon flugel mouthpieces I stumbled upon by accident on auction sites, the sellers thinking they were cornet mouthpieces. Yes, my Queenie (the common nickname for the flugel) actually is in tune above the staff as well as in and below, unlike other flugels with other mouthpieces.

So I'm sure you will find a good horn for it.

I wanted to say i have a high opinion of this style as well.

Perhaps i have been lucky and matched them with the right tubas.
