Just a FYI ...on their website:

February 3 - 6, 2021
At this time, we expect to host our annual Tuba-Euphonium Workshop(TEW) on Feb. 3-6, 2021 at our usual location at Brucker Hall on Fort Myer, Virginia. However, TEW is also developing a plan for the potential need for the workshop to operate in a virtual capacity. Please check back for updates. Thank you!

They could go virtual. The huge NAMM show is off in January 2021, so who knows...

Perhaps TubaForum.net should have a booth at the conference... :tuba:
(or a virtual presence, if it goes online).

[First post at the new place; now back to obscurity.]

Apologies, Mark, if that was a little too soon for the humour; the mental image of that very thought struck me in a funny way as I read the announcement.

I'm sure it would be fine. I've been to the conference twice and Sean never cared enough to show up to say hello, he stays away from the workshop because it doesn't involve the band he plays in

I do have a former student that plays in the same band. We've stayed close and I stay at his house when I am in town. I would be sad if I never went back

You know, this might be a good year for me to make the drive to Fort Myer. It has been years since I attended a TUSABTEC (or TEW or whatever it is called these days). I will have to get a nice

TubaForum.net

tee shirt to strut around in. A 3XLT ought to do it…

In my professional life, one of the major 2021 conferences, scheduled for April, is going to be virtual. Just too many unknowns to spend the time and effort now to schedule a place-based conference.

I wouldn't be surprised if USABTEC was cancelled. They didn't have to cancel last year, so it's still just a 1 year cancellation for them. That, plus inviting the general public and all their germs and crud onto a military base during a pandemic? Seems like it'd be an easy choice for them to cancel.

I haven't been to USABTEC for over 10 years. Would love to go again now that I've growed up some and know you all a whole lot better.

I found them before, I will see if I can find a link. Sounds like if we ever get shirts made up that's the only size we need

I wonder what a virtual conference would look like for vendors? I guess we could post videos, take orders and ship, but the experience just wouldn't be the same. Oh, wait, maybe someone could layer recordings of tuba and euphonium excerpts, and create an "Elephant Room" background soundtrack - perfect. . .

I was talking to someone connected with the Army band yesterday (no, not Sean, LOL) and he said he expects it to be online this coming year. Even if the number start to come down, even a flare up the week before could cancel the whole thing, and then a lot of people have invested money into airline tickets, ect.

I told him I understood, but I don't go for the concerts, I go to see friends that I normally don't ever get to see

I've never been to the one in DC. I always intend to go, but it's never a great time for me.

My first tuba/euph conference and Tuba Christmas was in Atlanta in 1999 or 2000. The Army band had a southern regional conference. That was the last year they did it, and Harvey Phillips was the Tuba Christmas conductor.

So maybe, in a sense, I'll get to attend this year.

For the first time in 20 years, I won't have a work conflict during that time, and the darned thing might get canceled. Stupid Corona!

I wonder if it is too late to apply as an artist? I really would like to play Tomes of Redemption by Ben McMillan and another piece with electronics, and ironically, for the first tuba conference of my life if I dont gain a ton of weight, be in military standard size weight.

Sign me up for a 2XL with a reservation to go down a size by then

That was one of two conferences that we put on while stationed with the Army Ground Forces Band in Atlanta. Held in the Georgia World Congress Center and we had a wonderful lineup. I learned a whole lot about conferences, mostly about how not to make some mistakes again. We did a second one in 2002, shorter but I believe a better schedule. Still a lot of work and lots of great music. I got sick as a dog from trying to do too many things but we all had a great time.

Who knows what will happen with the AB show or any of the ITEA events scheduled to be a "catch-up" to this year's events. Only time will tell.
