CUTE (BEAUTIFUL) LITTLE CONN PAN-AMERICAN E-FLAT FUN-HORN

CUTE (BEAUTIFUL) LITTLE CONN PAN-AMERICAN E-FLAT FUN-HORN
- less than 31 inches tall
- three top-action nickel plated pistons
- a scant 11 lbs. with mouthpiece
- .625" bore
- 14" bell
- remarkably great condition satin silver plating
- nearly completely clear of denting
- oddly, no name nor any engraving whatsoever (but unmistakably the model represented)
- A=440 playable
- a century old, according to the serial number
- small shank receiver
- two oem strap rings on board
- small E-flat "E-Z Tone” mouthpiece incl. (with nicks)
- vintage hard case in remarkable condition (King...a scant bit larger than this instrument)
$795 (firm) + FedExGround and 3% if paid by card (check, or USPS money order is fine)

small shank (aka "bass trombone" or older "English" tuba shank size)
I'm not a PT aficionado, sorry...

Pan American and 2J (E-flat from the early 20th century,
NOT the 1960's "2J" CC) shared some of the same parts (as did Conn instruments and other Pan American line instruments), but they are not completely the same.
They are similar, but there are subtle differences.
There is ANOTHER ("junk") E-flat Pan American out in the shop that features MORE differences than are apparent here, though...
Even though this one is free of engraving (possibly completely refinished, decades ago...??) the serial number dictates that it is of the Pan American line.
Here is the 2J E-flat from that era (though mine is a somewhat-rare 4-valve), next to this instrument:

I have one of those, but a bit later than that one. It's life before me was as an art prop for the high school my mother taught at, so it was rough. It was a present for me, so I don't know how bad it was before I got it, but it didn't have a receiver. I had to get a whole new leadpipe and receiver made for it. I currently use a Conn Helleberg 7B in it, but I have gotten my RT-36 in it. Being that it is a newer receiver, I have no idea if he made it work for a standard mouthpiece or not.
All that being said, it is a fun little horn to play. It definitely doesn't sound as big as the Willson 3400 I had a chance to play, but it should fit in just fine in a band setting where it is filling the bass tuba role.

What exactly is small shank receiver?? Is it a large shank trombone or something else? Thanks.

yes...
just about the same size as "bass shank" trombone.
Denis Wick offers their mouthpieces with this shank size, and a few of my shanks are offered with this exterior size option.

That was one of the differences between the Pan American line and the Conn "professional" line versions.
Later, they differed slightly more, I'm thinking...
The one in the picture is the c. 1920's "2J".
I have a rare FOUR-valve version of the "2J", which I have shortened from E-flat to F, but have not completed the project.

I am. I'm looking for a tuba that'll give a more antique sound for stuff like the Bohme Sextet, since I do a lot of brass quintet with friends.
