Low opening bid, probably a good deal if someone wants to redevelop the site. I'm surprised that the main building was built in 1940, all the structures shown look much newer. Locally old school buildings have been repurposed to good effect with shops, offices, and such.

I like the sign "I'm not your Mama. Pick it up!" You think that would fly in a classroom today?!

Beyond that, this place gives me the creeps. And the fact that it's 1) starting at $50k and 2) explicitly states it does not include the baseball equipment tends to suggest that this place is crap and that the baseball equipment is the most valuable part of the deal.

I also feel sorry for the family of the person on the dedication plaque. That must have been an exciting day when the building was dedicated, but such a short-lived honor!

Over the summer, the old Duluth High School was sold for $7.4 million. Then again, it had a great plot of land and views unbefitting of a public high school:

The fewer structures, the less crap to haul away.

I would feel a little bit better about investing in developing some property in Duluth, Minnesota than Kilmichael, Mississippi.

I don't think I'm alone in that...

At the moment, it appears that someone was about 148 times more likely.

It may be, it just seemed... remote.

But that could be part of it's charm??

Don't get me wrong, I hate city slickers as much as the next guy.

I just like to have a market within a 45 minute drive.

I come from the mean suburban streets of Hockessin, DE and Chevy Chase, MD mind you!! :smilie2:

At least, we know that 0% of the residents of Kilmichael, Mississippi voted for Al Franken. 😐

That has been the State Highway Department’s ad campaign on and off for years. The original TV spots were hilarious, and the finger-shaking “Mama” was our “First Lady” at that time. I loved those commercials.

That would probably be because it was a rather small school in a rather small town, like the majority of Mississippi schools. In fact, it was so small that the residents couldn’t pop out new children often enough to justify having their own campus. Now they all go to the much larger Winona High School because the State consolidated the two districts.

The propane tanks in the photos = probably no natural gas service to the town. Limiting for some uses of the property . . .

It's the propane accessories that get you in the long run.
(But if you wanted to, say, manufacture asphalt or smelt copper on the property, that's probably not a good idea with propane . . .)
