Seeking upright bell for a King 1241

Post by oltarzewskt1 »

I have a King 1241 with the detachable recording bell. It's not urgent since I'm not playing a ton right now, but I'm looking for an upright bell to replace the recording bell, if only so I can carry it around in a bag instead of the giant two-part case. If anyone has one sitting around, I'd be happy to give it a good home!

Location: Connecticut/New England.

Even with an upright bell, I believe there aren't going to be many/any bags (other than custom/pricey) that will accommodate that instrument other than the one linked above.

The reason that I believe your King will fit (even with the recording bell mounted) is because I managed to slip a Reynolds (larger than King) into one of those bags with its recording bell mounted...and zip it shut.

...just random info...and a BUMP !!!
I like how the better review on their website says how much he hates that bag, while the less stars review raves how great it is. But yeah to the OP, that was my one big pet peeve of the older detachable bell Kings, they literally only fit in one production bag unless you have someone like Messina make you one from a horn sketch and it will be about 5 times as expensive.

yup...but there's also can be (with SOME people) a case/bag price vs. instrument resale value issue.

A friend of mine recently bought an instrument for under $1000, and (though I did tell my friend that SuperFine are THE BEST), is contracting for a SuperFine case (bag) for that instrument.

Hello,

I have the same tuba at the school where teach. I contacted BAC Musical Instruments in Kansas City who said they could probably fabricate an upright bell. Here is there web address: https://www.coolisbac.com/

There is a silver upright on eBay at the moment.

I’m not saying it’s cheap though.
Some old Yorks, Martins, and perhaps a King rotary valved CC

I carry my recording bell King in a gig bag (which fits with the upright bell) by removing the bell and putting it in the bag upside down over the body of the tuba, padded with towels, pillows and stuffed animals (can't have the tuba getting lonely in the dark bag). A bit inconvenient but workable.
