eBay and zeros

Is it just me, or are some of the rest of you seeing some things offered for sale that appear to have at least two too many zeros in their prices - and/or salvage/parts instruments priced like gently used instruments…??

It would be easy to convince that we’ve had 35% inflation since January 2021, but not 3500%…yet.

$3000…??

If anything, the prices of brass/tuba related stuff that's junk or even slightly used has DECREASED in price if anything due to low demand. These people are out of their (can I say this, cotton pickin' minds). Maybe they are just opportunists who don't understand inflation and think the average Joe can raise his prices at the same time as the Feds.

What I’ve noticed is that, for the most part, EBay has nothing but dented up abused junk that isn’t worth overhauling. This includes high quality horns like Miraphones et al. These horns were ridden hard! I feel sorry for them. Anything dent free and still shiny is generally Indian or Chinese junk. I want to know where all the pampered, well taken care of quality tubas are. Still in their owner’s hands no doubt, waiting for someone to pry them from their cold dead fingers. Reverb generally seems to have better horns in better shape, but then there’s either “too many zeros”, a seller in a foreign country (don’t want to go down that road), or a listing so mixed up the seller obviously doesn’t know what he or she has. Buying used tubas, I’ve discovered, is a real mine field not for the faint of heart. My King was technically sold as used, but it was in mint condition with no sign of being played. I was lucky. When I die and someone pries it from my cold dead fingers it will still be dent free, I swear!

For a long time eBay was the only game in town for searching/selling country or world wide, thus people listed good condition horns.

As their fees have risen and other avenues have appeared (FB, reverb, etc), people with high (even medium) dollar horns have seem to have taken their listings elsewhere.

When I first saw the pic I thought it was one of those gr8winds horns. The BIN is highly optimistic.
