tuba player / nice guy / veteran / never met him in-person / lived in Winston-Salem / nearly reached age 80.

I know he liked farming, trains, and gospel music.

Those who knew him well should post about him.

Any kin to Mark Clodfelter, trumpeter, once at Appalachian State University?

An unusual name, Mark just last week premiered a trumpet concerto with our large brass ensemble. He is teaching the studio at U of Delaware now.

Looks like no direct kin to Mark from the obituary.

I thought that I had read that Mark was from NC so maybe they were somewhat related.

His first name, "Brown", was his father's middle name which makes me think there would be a Brown surname in his family. I am descended from some NC Browns so I may be distantly kin to Brown Clodfelter.

Brown grew up in the Moravian music world. He lived a life of servitude to others. That's a good way to make sure you are fondly remembered.

I'll bet he was a good guy to have known. My condolences.

To me, he was a fb friend.
I didn't know him (other than fb) but knew that he would be a great (in-person) friend, were we geographically close.

Knew Brown through the Charlotte Tuba Euphonium Ensemble, we bonded talking about history. He wanted to come down to see some South Carolina Civil war history sites with me, but we never managed to do so, sadly.
