This is a small Besson BBb tuba from 1969. This model appears in older Besson catalogs as the model 588. Three top-action valves work well and have good compression. Matte silver plate has tarnished a bit - you may care or perhaps not. Adult owned, it seems. No signs of repairs or damage. The was the FIRST small BBb tuba that I tried that actually played well! I have disliked most of them.

The 588 designation may have been for the UK domestic market. Besson used the 2-20 designation for the line of USA student instruments, including trumpets and cornets.

compact power tubas with good intonation and which can be made to play with quite a lot of sound.
These older ones were assembled more nicely than the ones built towards the end of the Edgware Road factory.

...I believe I saw on eBay where Taylor Music was offered a new-condition perfect-fit case for this model, and for a few low price.

There are actually 3 different 2-20 tuba models that I have seen:
- Eb
- Bb compact
- Bb larger style with front facing bend in 3rd valve slide - This one is somewhat rare, but I have one. It has only one high bend near the top of the bell and the other one is lower. The compact had both loops high, and the Eb has only one high bend.

Does anyone know the Besson numbers on these? They are both marked 2-20.
