This Tuba Tuesday the Museum features a Distin, BBb helicon, 3 piston, ca. 1895

“SUPERIOR/HENRY DISTIN MFG. CO./MAKERS/WILLIAMSPORT. PA./HIGHEST GRADE/14080” on bell.

18” bell, .710 bore

This instrument was used in the band for the pro football team in Washington in the 1930’s...

That band now uses Yamaha sousaphones last I heard.

If i have to pick a favorite tuba, these are it.

That there valve block appeals to me aesthetically. And i suppose ergonomically too, as it being low down, you don't have to reach as far for it.

But fortunately very few people require a favorite of me, so i think i can also like other tubas...

Played an Eb Keefer younger smaller sibling in a parade today, and had fun.
