Just putting it out there that I am looking to trade my original clear silver 22'' King bell from the mid 70's for a 19'' King clear silver bell. The 22'' bell has dings, a few spots of silver wear on the inside and small area on the outside and some scratches but it overall in good shape for it's size and age. I will also buy a 19'' clear silver King bell if you have one for sale and do not want to trade, just let me know. Bell in avatar photo but can send you better clearer shots of it if interested. Thank You.

I just picked up a King with a 22" bell. What is the benefit of the 19" over the 22?

My king has both. The 19in. gives more clarity and doesn't pull you to the left The 22 in. is more towards a concert band/ string bass sound. The bell fronts are 22 in. There are people who can trim a bell down to whatever you want( Bell, Novotny, and Torchinsky's C's had 16 in. bells with the same tenon. I believe Bisontuba knows one of the folks who are able to cut one. I've often mused about getting a flowered 22 and having it cut to 16. Ed

hmm didn't think of that. Technically the 22'' can be cut to 19'' without too much harm done?

My definitive knowledge is limited but I've played on two cut down bells. One a Conn monster top banger and the other a rotary King C that came from Bisontuba several years ago. They both played and looked fine but I hadn't played either one before. I also don't know what it would cost. My 19in. bell came from a King 2 valve contra. The thickness perfectly matched the body. The horn was built in 1959 and is thicker than other later built Kings that I've owned. You might try to hook up with some corps people. They seem to be evolving to more than two valves these days and you could get lucky(like I did).Best of luck, I think these are great horns. Ed

A 19'' King K-90 bell might work, I've heard they all have the same tenon measurements.
