Tuba Tuesday: Alexander, E flat tuba, 4 rotary, c.1890

Happy Tuba Tuesday. Today, the Museum features a Alexander, E flat tuba, 4 rotary, c.1890.

Bell Diameter is 11 1/2, bore is .715″ & the instrument’s height is 34 1/4.”

“GEBR. ALEXANDER / HOLZ & METALL / INSTRUMENTEN – FABRIK / in / Mainz” on seal on bell. There is floral engraving on the seal and rotary buttons. No serial number could be located on body of instrument.

Engraved clock spring casings. Who could ask for anything more?

The emblem on the bell stack is very similar to the one on my BBb. Valve gear is different though- mine has the adjustable spring tensioners. Sure looks like the same era though. :tuba:

And no, these tubas never had serial numbers.
