I drove down to Baltimore Brass today, intending to look at Eb Sousaphones. Brought home this helicon instead. The valve springs are a bit, uh, relaxed, but it has a neat sound. Could be fun!

I've had clock springs tightened. It seems to be fairly easy to do, but they aren't infinitely adjustable, they go up by notches. So maybe not worth it unless they're unworkably weak.

Plays in tune?

Those thumbnails aren't coming up for me. Not sure why, they just draw a blank.

Those thumbnails are alternately working, and then not working for me, too. Odd. The link should work, though. I'll sort out a better image host in the future.

The springs aren't unworkable, they just don't return quickly. They're fine for oompah, which is probably what this horn will end up being used for.
