Seeking BBb Tuba Rental or WTB <$3000 BBb

Hi all,

I’m an Atlanta-area high school senior tubist who is looking to graduate early in December, but will be left without an instrument to use if I do so. I’ve looked around online and most tuba rentals are for 3/4 BBb beginner horns, but does anyone know of a person/place that would rent a 4/4 or 5/4 BBb or tuba until around March (after college audition season)?

Alternatively, I would also be willing to purchase a BBb horn for less than $3000 that I would flip later.

Thanks,
Cameron

If you could find a Jinbaophone to BUY used for $1500, that would roughly be a rental cost of $200/mo. (under $7/day) and you could sell it for roughly the same (yes?) when done with it (recovering the vast majority of your front-end cash outlay).

Similar to @bloke’s advice…

Something like this is also a viable alternative if you can swing the funds. You’d likely net the sale price afterwards.

I’ve heard of some of the Mack Brass 410s being pretty decent, so I’ll look into that as well as the BMB, thanks!

The 410 is a copy of the Miraphone 186 CC tuba. There is a version of the 186 BBb for sale, but it is not nearly so well-liked.

HOWEVER…

It still might be exactly what you are looking for. I have never played one and cannot address this firsthand. I also do not know the model number.

Good luck with your search.

IMHO: A used old style King 2341 (or 1241) could be purchased for $1500-2500, used until it is not needed any more and sold for the same price as it was purchased. No loss of money. Which is good.

Hi Cameron -- this tuba fits your criteria, and is pretty close... seller says he'll drive a bit to meet up, maybe this could work out?

I will gather more insight into the Dillon 186 copy and any others that may be out there, thanks!

I played on a King 2341 in 9th grade before switching to my the St. Petersburg that I’m currently using, and I enjoyed it! However, most of the models I’ve been seeing float around the various forums are much more than that.

Bort, I’ve asked my teacher about that model as I am pretty unfamiliar with Cerveny, but that would be a very viable option, thanks!
