The plastic extension breaks off, so the embedded washer must be released from the plastic, brazed onto metal that is the dimension of the broken off plastic, reinserted into the plastic and reinstalled.
Of course (as in this case) when it is found that the valve casing (this one: obviously #1) was also FUBAR (as was the #2 casing) that's a bit of a pisser (particularly when there's urgency and a ticking clock), but whatever...
It ain't "purdy", and it's only rough-filed but (seriously...) the only thing that matters (along with it being small enough to fit in that track on the top of the piston) is the little bit that sticks out past the circumference of the piston body.
Oh yeah...missing spring
...but I remembered that I had some of those Miraphone/M-W/B&S cone-shaped valve springs in my sock drawer, so I was able to avoid using a King/Yamaha/whatever. It's repaired...in time/on time, and the oem replacement has been ordered.
