I would play a different piano concerto.

Seems like the part has no range extremes other than some low Es. Pretty much any tuba will do? or Prokofiev, so BBb tuba? Conn 14k? Your pudgy Holton? Depends what else is on the program?

the rest of the concerto - any ol' tuba, though a six-valve F tuba would offer THREE ways to play the D-flats (which appear quite often in the piece, and it's nice to play tuba pitches just as flat as the left hand of a piano is tuned)
the portion quoted below - would prefer to play on F (tuning/volume control/overall control)

OK...If it's a typical suck F tuba, all bets are off.

Everyone knows that Prokofiev loved the cimbasso.

...as well as the Jinbao compensating euphonium...
me...??
I suspect that it was first played on some sort of E-flat tuba (in Россия).
Scheherazade's tessitura/pitch range (yet another Russian piece - written about a quarter century earlier) fits JUST within the range of a 3-valve E-flat.
(When I play the R-K, I ALWAYS "unfold" the motif - stated at the beginning.) I would play Scheherazade on a bass tuba WERE IT NOT FOR the massive opening motif, PLUS those downbeat "punches" that kick the brass (later in the piece)...I WILL NOT be drowned out by percussion !!!

I played it two weeks ago on Rotary F. Small orchestra so balance was fine. Low note sections needed a little attention. I play my F quite a bit so take this with a grain of salt if you F is not played everyday. Then there is Lee Stofer's quote:"F tubas are like trophy wives, if you don't give them attention every day there is going to be trouble."

I feel sorry for people who own F tubas like that.

The only Prokofiev piece I played with a group was that piano concerto in C on bass trombone. No tuba part so he went off stage and I sat next to the string basses. Very cool experience playing some stuff on the chainsaw with them.
The descending lines to low C in the last movement were awesome and the piano player was a total boss.
We all joke about the wire choir but I think bass players rock, I consider them honorary brass players.

I just do what I can to get you to use the cimbasso on as many gigs as possible. I'm also thinking this would be perfect for your bell front Eb Besson.

The concert was composed and premiered in Russia. At that time Zimmermann BBb tubas were probably used there. A tubist with ukrainian roots said in an YouTube video, that just a few years ago they still played there everyhing with St Pete (Zimmermann) BBb tuba.
