How many years?

At a recent community band rehearsal, we did the thing where we raised our hands and kept them raised if we've been playing for 5... 10... 20... years.

A nonagenarian cornet player has been playing since he was about 7 years old, so he took the cake at 83 years playing his instrument.

What are you up to? This year makes 22 for me, I think.

Music: 32

Tuba: About 10. But I started euph roughly 20 years prior and just made a dead switch the second the euph was stolen.

Tuba 58
String Bass 50. Would have been 58 as well but arthritis in my fingers forced me to give it up about 8 years ago.
Euphonium 60. I played it for 2 years before picking up the tuba and still play it some.

Dang I'm old. I'll have to ask my 91-year-old tuba playing buddy how long he's been playing. 75 at least, I'm sure.

Piano - 67 years.... though, after having surgery on both hands a couple of years ago, I'm rather limited as to what I can play now.
Tuba - 20+ years or so...... off and on. Every so often, I take it seriously and practice diligently for extended periods of time. Then, something happens and there's no place to actually perform, so it drops by the wayside for awhile. Somewhere along the line I start all over again. (The Covid thing stopped our community band for almost three years.) Right now, I'm on the uptick! Today, we have our concert, then, I have an Easter Eve gig with a brass quintet.

Completely forgot....... I was a percussionist in HS and college. Played a little in the early years of teaching. That fell by the wayside quite awhile ago.

Understated as always. I was listening to that Dixieland video recording of your group back in the 80s the other day. Fantastic stuff.
