I was not aware these were that large. Is the 6/4 moniker appropriate here?

Here's a cut and paste from the FB ad:

"1938 King 1291 BBb Tuba
$6,000
Citrus Heights, CA · on Saturday
I have been the owner of this legendary 6/4 King 1291 tuba for about a year. This is the model that is similar to the one Bill Bell played, and based on my research is one of maybe 20 that were ever produced. This tuba has unique string-linkgage rotary valves.

It is one of the finest instruments I have ever played, and is in great playing condition. It does have some dents and finish issues, as is typical with an 85 year old instrument, but it is ready to be your daily-driver tuba.

It comes with it's original 24" recording bell, plus a 20" upright from the same production line.

I will also include a King 26 mouthpiece (which would have been the same type included with the instrument when it was new) a King hard case for the body, and 2 new gig bags for each of the bells.

Buyer to pay shipping costs from Citrus Heights CA"

No phone or e-mail listed. Must contact through FB P.M.

Well they are great big like a 6/4 but the bore size is .750 so I don't know how the X/4 police would catagorize them. Jake's Yorks are .750 as well. Oddly, the serial number on mine is 178177 so I'm at a loss here. I love mine and best of luck with the sale. Ed

Very cool tuba -- not in my budget, but hope the next owner loves it!

I'm curious if this horn is the one that was for sale at Baltimore Brass for quite a while. It was about a year ago that I recall it disappeared from the BB website.

Isn't this the one Kilte Tuba had for sale? I think I'm recognizing the little dents on the back. From the stories I've heard there were about 100 Bb's in three and four valves and between 7 and 16 C's. The C;s were physicaly smaller (like a 186 Mirafone) and had a .687 bore. I feel priveledged to own this one. It makes a gorgeous sound and those around me always seem to have something nice to say about the pitch. Well it's almost Beer O'Clock so I'm outa here. Ed

Yes, it’s the one owned at some point by Kiltie Tuba, based on the serial number list I’ve kept on rotary Kings.

I still dream of one day owning an American made rotary tuba... This one is pretty dreamy, but priced accordingly. One day...!

When I was dropping off my king sousaphone Martin tried real hard to convince my wife that I needed him to build me one of those he had in his shop. He almost succeeded.
