Eb tuba and Canada

I've noticed over the years that I've seen a number of Eb tubas for sale located in Canada, really more than I'd expect when compared to the US.
I'm not 100% certain that my impression is even correct or if I just notice Eb tubas for sale more than others.
I was wondering if there's a particular Eb tuba tradition in Canada. I took a look at the Bevan book's index and "Canada" didn't even appear.

Instruments sourced from Boosey & Hawkes are more abundant in certain regions of Canada than what is generally seen in the USA.

My understanding is that Canada has mostly been Franco-British, culturally - but with a Minnesota accent.

I have seen a number of 3+1 Yamahas for sale as well.

My BBb Kalison came from Canada, so there's the Italian thing as well.

As I understand it, and perhaps the more knowledgeable might correct me, the Eb Tuba was once popular in the USA. Later the Eb was, in the USA, displaced by the BBb with its associated lower Bass pitch range; maybe the logic was the lower the note pitch the better or maybe a BBb is (in particular situations) usefully louder… Canada is a vast place with its own culture and cultural developments, doubtless its way of doing things overlaps with some USA customs but it has also followed slightly different paths to the USA and holds slightly different relationships with European countries. Well, that’s my best guess.

In Vancouver, BC, the only place I've been with any regularity, there is a considerable British ex-pat contingent. (And Chinese / Hong Kong.)

I was born and raised in the heart of western Canada and have been playing ee flat tuba for over 30 years.I keenly follow the buy and sell pages in this part of the world with great interest.I really have not noticed more ee flat tubas for sale than other keys of tubas.

Then it sounds like you may be seeing far more Eb tubas than one would find in the US. Just checking on a few craigslist city sites in the US, how many Eb tubas? 0 (zero), vs. more than a dozen BBb (did you know there's a Holton J350, a 350 variant with a forward bell?) You'd find them numerous only if there were more than the BBb models; south of the border they find them numerous if there are any at all.

You're right about that -- you have to know someone with one in order to wheedle them into selling it to you, which they only do because they really need the money.
And then as you gradually get the unbelievable amount of tarnish off it, find it plays every bit as well as you remember and even better, you start dancing a jig.
