I will be in town for the Great American Brass Band festival, May 28-June 4, playing in my hometown group after five years away.

Does anyone in the central Kentucky/Lexington/Louisville area have a tuba I could borrow for that week? CC preferred, but obviously not picky at all.

Send me a PM or email beanhillbrass at gmail dot com. Will bump as the deadline gets closer. Thanks very much for any leads!

thanks, have talked to Matt.

His employment ends on June 1 as he has accepted the Florida State gig, but pointed me in the direction of the UK band office who might be able to help.

@royjohn, thank you for that very generous offer; will let you know.

A couple leads have fallen through, so here's a bump.

...so are you flying c. 10 hours door-to-door, rather than driving with your own tuba 13 hours door-to-door...??

This issue/topic ("planes and tubas don't mix") was brought up somewhere recently (fb?) with someone who bought a seat for their tuba but - upon boarding - wasn't allowed to board with the tuba.

If you're flying and hoping to find a loaner tuba, I understand, but it's just that I would have immediately chosen to drive.
We're all different.

Gotcha. I considered it. Got a cheap direct 2 hr flight, small regional airport to small regional airport, flying with my 10 mo. old, dad/son trip. If I weren't flying alone with a baby, I'd deal with the hassle of either driving or bringing a tuba along. Barring any epic delay, I'm hoping wake-up to my parents' house is 5 hrs.

That sounds like a good combination of factors, that might even encourage me to see if someone would loan me a tuba.
...but I'm probably not a good enough player to pick up a random model of tuba (as was Rich Matteson, as an other-worldly example) and play the crap out of it.

If you haven’t already, contact Dr. Aaron Hynds. They are on the music business and sound faculty at University of Kentucky but they hold a DMA in tuba performance .Not sure if they still just play Eb only but it is worth a shot.
