There's a regular band director position open in our nice little community.
I'm sure a job search would locate all the details, but look for Sebeka, Minnesota.
Here's the background.
There was a successful director here from the 60's to 86. He retired and I took over (my 3rd job), had a very successful program as well. In 92, due to declining enrollment, we lost 7 teachers all simply cut based on seniority (including me), and we lost 4 more over the next 2 years. The band job went to the choir director (who had seniority) and I followed other means of income, remained in the community as my wife was the only one on staff with Kindergarten certification so her job was secure. After 2 years the choir/band director took a position on Grand Caymen in a church school. The program had floundered down to less than half the size I had left her. They hired a guy to take over - he lasted just 2 years and the program dropped by another 50%, just pathetic.
Next guy hired has been fantastic in many ways. He's been here over 20 yrs, built the program back to where it should be, has been well-respected and active in the community, is a talented drummer and a personal friend to me. (His wife is my nurse. I love the connections in our community) Anyhow, after all these years my friend decided to get his master's degree in administration, and is now the Superintendent of the district. A young man or lady could not find a better situation to take over. The Board, the Admin, the town, the students are all big band supporters. This would be a great place to stay and retire, or to make your name and move along to something bigger.
The town is very much Mayberry - big supporters of the school, local sports, the band program. More churches than bars, very conservative. There's a lot to do in the area, whether you want to be super involved or want to hole up and keep to yourself in the great outdoors. Plus, Paul and I can use some young tuba blood to start to take the load off our shoulders - and there are a lot of opportunities (a few paying).
Like I said, do a search on Sebeka, MN for the job, or call the district office at 218-837-5101 and ask for Superintendent Dave Kirkvliet. Or, shoot me a PM to have any questions answered. I love this area, love this community, and have an interest in who'll be taking over. I'd do anything I can to make this a smooth transition.
