I have interest from two trumpets, one horn, one trombone and

My office landlord gave me rehearsal space in a vacant spot down the hall from my own.

I have our repertoire planned;

Christmas Time by Buchtel/Kjos.

Trumpets need the first and second parts.

Horn needs the third and first part.

Trombone needs the first, third and fourth part.

Tuba needs forth and first.

The trombone would need to cover the third part when the horn solos, or if/when the arrangement sounds better with it doubling the third instead of forth part.

I also discovered that the Canadian Brass Christmas Time is Here quintet music scores with CD of the same name so one can play/rehearse with the CD!! These are not the seven selections I would have chosen but, there you go....

If we get through out first group of selections I'd like to give this a go too. I identified two that I'm sure we could handle but some of the others are pretty advanced.

If you need Christmas quintet music, call Wade and ask him what he needs to earn for his arrangements. They are accessible and fund, and they sound good. Worth the money.

And, though it's not holiday music specifically, Robert King produced a vast library of quartet music that works if one of your trumpet players can't make it. One of our trumpet players being hypervigilant about COVID (and, believe me, none of the rest of us are holding that against him in any way), so we've been working our way through that book. Tuba parts are low--I've been playing Bb. Again, not difficult and just fun to play, though the trombone player will complain about having to play 10,000 picardy thirds. A lot of it is from the Baroque and earlier, and works in a variety of situations.

We've been playing together outdoors with proper distancing, because all of us have had health issues in the past and don't want to get this illness until the odds of it not being serious are even better than they have become in recent months.

This looks like the only playing opportunity after the Holidays as well so it may live on!!

Make it work. Small groups are the future. I have a tuba quartet (EETT) getting better every week on patriotic, Oktoberfest and Christmas music.

In previous years I had a Christmas quintet using the Salvation Army green books. We gave up on harmony and had two 1st Trumpet parts being played, one on Trumpet and one on flugelhorn. Awesome sound.

We lost the trumpets but the first part is covered by the horn, the trombone is doing the horn part and I play

Only one rehearsal left next week

We do “Three Ships” as a round all playing the first part. FUN!!
