If anyone has one lying around and is willing to part with it, I am interested in buying an old/worn-out/dented/finish-doesn't-matter Conn 20J at or under $500 or so. Located in CT but can meet up around New England or the NYC Metro area. Thanks! PM or email beanhillbrass at gmail.

add-on / sidebar / bump

For one of the Conn 20K sousaphones I'm restoring, I might end up needing a 20J (tuba - and even though only 24") bell FLARE (which un-soldered from the elbow) which hasn't been buffed thin - to swap out (which has been buffed too thin) on one of NINE 20K sousaphones that I'll be restoring later this year.

BUMP !!!

Good luck!

A couple years ago I bought one of these that came with two brand new cases and the tuba itself had been bought at BBC and then used once, and got in the person's way ever since

I think I paid $400 for it.

Generally speaking, I think there are some 20 j deals to be had out there. If you ask me, I just don't think that they're very popular and that a lot of people perceive them as being too heavy and too much trouble to lug around, and the whole recording bell thing too. What's effectively means, cheaper for you

They do exist (my 20J cost $400), so bide your time until one comes along.

Yes, I was thinking of yours, Brett's, and some other folks' who were able to score a deal. Likely won't come from TubaForum folks but I've got my eye on the auction sites, Craigslist and local buy-sell groups.

If you are willing to up the budget a bit...

grwinds616 (eBay) has a couple of 24K tubas (4-valve...unknown cond.) that might go for a few more hundred dollars ea.

Thanks, have been eyeing those. I (not a professional) don't know if I need the fourth valve, but I am watching those and may bid if it doesn't get outrageously high.

OK tube-boobs:

Let's give Arpie a shot at one of these, and lay off...

...and yeah, four valves is super-pro, but - at least - there's no stainless steel mpc. included.

There’s one for $500 about an hour from me that I’d go grab for you but I don’t think it has a bell.

What level of functionality do you need? Wife is probably OK parting with the one missing the pistons that I posted about in another thread.
