And hand and power tools manufacturers, and makers of both four-in-hand and bowties. And all auto parts and sporting goods manufacturers and stores.

My wonderful wife (business major in college) believes that all holidays are marketing scams. We don't buy gifts for each other or anyone else. It really takes the pressure off.

...particularly those who make crappy/gadgety/6-in-one-tool ones.

...but not Harbor Freight...
Honestly, I don't see very many women in Harbor Freight stores, UNLESS they're with their husband, etc.

I totally get the pride of military service, and particularly the emotions of those whose fathers were killed in wars that were entered into by various of our past presidents...

...but - when I think of my father in this regard - I guess I could say,

"This is my father, who was a lieutenant commander in the Navy, and managed to get away from his job at SEARS during WWII - spending that war in Jamaica (where he learned all about rum), and to get away from SEARS - once again - during the Korean War, and spend that war in southern California (where he learned all about golf)."

bloke "whose brother spent the Vietnam war - as a solder and subsequently as a civilian government employee - in Bangkok, renting a house a couple of blocks from the beach - which included a servant and a gardener"

We had a lovely day at the range followed by a picnic. Just finished off my pasta dinner.

Not a father myself, I thought about my own sainted father.

I agree. I think holidays are created largely to stimulate the sale of merchandise.
