Between the repair work and slide setup, I think this one is a good candidate for being something to stare at only.

many frightening things to behold...

Likely not, but the bottom and upper bows look a lot like King.

In about 2016, I went to visit Sam Gnagey up in Indiana to buy a Vienna-system (3+3) Alexander F tuba from him, that to this day is the best F tuba I have ever owned or played.

I believe, but may be misremembering, that the Alexander came from the estate of Sam Green, who was the prinicpal tuba at Cincinnati for many years. Also in that estate was a Sander CC tuba very similar to the one pictured. It featured string linkage, very leaky valves, and that same two-whole step (like our modern 2+3 combo) 4th valve. It was a sweet horn, very very light, and I think it would've been a nice player had it not been leaky. It looked almost identical to this tuba.

I like the arm guard quite a bit.

edit: here is Sam Gnagey's old Sander post on the old site: http://forums.chisham.com/viewtopic.php?p=668030

Dents Be Gone! wrote: Thu Aug 03, 2023 8:10 am Just out of curiosity, I looked up how to remove JB Weld. A torch, sanding, and acetone are options. A torch would be bad. Sanding would probably as bad or worse. Acetone might be a way to go. Ugh. Too bad.

:gaah:
Also vinegar, apparently. I have never had to do that, thankfully.

The ad copy says that this is actually Sam Gnagey's old tuba, listed above, with added JB Weld and a significant price increase.
