Wow, I haven't seen one of these in probably 10-15 years... I bet this is a
really nice tuba.

Am I seeing more (main slide) tuning range, compared to the 2155 ?

the picture
I've never been in the same room with one, but they are very similar to the (seemingly long pulled off production schedules) model 2155.
I believe (??) Baltimore Brass ordered that model with enough small differences to give it a 7, rather than a 5.
Others have outlined the differences (old site), but I don't remember them.
I'm also thinking that BB offered a 2147 (vs. 2145)...no? (I'm probably wrong...)
If a 2155 were to gently float out of the sky - into my arms - I'd be tempted to keep it (for a pretty good while).
It's not as powerful an instrument as the 5450 that I owned, and/but 2155 tubas are fine instruments - with
even more potential if modified a bit.

The one in
bold - in my view - is THE difference that matters (and makes it REALLY nice).

Absolutely. That weird “gotta have a bigger leadpipe” period of time made no sense. At. All.
Don't forget, the 2155 was originally advertised as being Warren Deck's quintet tuba.

Given Joe Alessi and Don Harwood being where they were at playing-wise 30-35 years ago, makes sense as to the advent of the 2165. And in a quintet with Alessi, Phil Smith, and whoever else, the 2155 probably was a decent balance. For Warren.

I had an appointment at Dillon for the 24th and I looked that morning to see if there was anything new. Long story short it is mine now. Right place right time haha

Many congratulations!
I have been in the right place and the right time often enough i have no complaints that it also happens to others.
I echo arpthark's question.

It’s great! Big enough sound to play in large ensembles but nimble enough for solo work and also chamber ensembles. Very happy with my purchase.
