Selling my Mirafone 182. I bought the tuba 3 years ago and it's still in great shape! Consider this model as a large 3/4, slender 4/4, or a 7/8 size tuba. Take your pick. This one is in ready-to-play shape. Valves and slides all work well.

Original case is what used to be called a Jacob Winter case. ABS hard case with wheels, also in great shape. I'll also throw in a superfine bag that fits the instrument perfectly that's brand new. Asking $3000 for the instrument and both the hard and soft cases.

It's a pretty cool little horn but I just am finding I'm not playing as much as I thought I would

I can't find the model on the Miraphone website - nor much mention of it anywhere on the web (other than the past offering of this same instrument for sale, and this offering).

I'm guessing that the 282 replaced it...??

I don't "need" something like that...but I sure was impressed by it.
I can see that this 182 isn't the same thing, so obviously "1"82 isn't an error...It's obviously the correct nomenclature, and - I'd wager - that it's quite a fine tuba.

I bought one for my Jr. High band program in the early 90s. It was a great playing lightweight horn.

The biggest change from the 182 to the 282 was the re-design of the leadpipe. On the 182 it enters the first valve from the side. On the 282 it enter the first valve from the top. Not sure how much difference that makes but designers at Miraphone must have thought it was important.

The 282 still doesn't offer an opportunity to add a 5th rotor in front of the first valve, but I believe there's room past the main slide for a fifth valve on a 282. I've not played a 182, but the 282 plays well enough too deserve a fifth valve, and to be used by top drawer players. (Due to the bell shape, it's not going to offer particularly convincing "false tones" - which got me fairly quickly thinking about a fifth valve possibility, were I to become the fantasy-owner of one.)

If the 182 is mostly the same instrument, I'd wager that it is probably as good as a 282, which is quite good indeed.

I won't be buying this instrument, but the price/condition/quality/experience with a 282 cause me to continue to notice this sale.

Sorry to hijack RenoDoc's thread, but could you elucidate? Narrower bell = worse false tones? Is that maybe why the false tones on a 3v compensating 17" bell Besson are kinda cruddy?

This tuba that is for sale is going to offer a usable E flat, since the first valve slide is accessible, and also a really good d natural. I don't know what else anyone would really need.

I knew it was B-flat, I think it's a beautiful instrument, if it plays anywhere close to a 282, it's got to be really great, but I just haven't ever played a 182.

I have a sneaking suspicion that it plays better than a 184 B-flat, particularly better than an old one. The price is a no-brainer, particularly if it's at least as good as a 184 B-flat.

Wish it was closer.

I see a combination of grey plastic, black plastic, and steel Minibal links (assuming they're all the same make).
The grey ones suppress the highs, the black ones phrase the best and are particularly helpful with ornaments.
The steel ones are just in case Chuck Norris depresses those particular paddles.
