Allora tubas?
Has anyone played the Allora AATU-105R tuba? Just wanted some feedback on the sound if it is okay for a part time player. Tubas are so expensive. I have played a Chinese made horn and the only complaint I had was how thin the brass tends to be. Thx

Re: Allora tubas?
No advice for you other than yes, it is definitely Chinese, and that you can probably find the same or close to the same tuba from other sources for less money. Check Dillon and Mack Brass store brands. Also see what kind of deal you can get from our bloke (Midsouth Music) on a John Packer version.

Re: Allora tubas?
The Dillon version of that horn is about $300 cheaper. The Mack Brass version is almost $700 cheaper. Plus buying from either of those would include the tuba being checked over before being sold. I don’t think that’s true with WWBW.

Re: Allora tubas?
@Thom, it might be more useful to outline what your tuba wants/needs are.
Regarding the tuba you’re asking about, I’d avoid that.
Here’s something cheaper, new, albeit Chinese but from a reputable seller:
https://www.dillonmusic.com/dillon-641-bbb-tuba/
It’s a copy of the Yamaha YBB-641 (which has its own reputation) which is a quasi copy of a Melton 25.
If you don’t mind a bell front tuba, Dillon has a couple of old King 2341s for a decent price.
Nonetheless, this is all spitballing without knowing what your requirements are. Chances are, if you post them, someone will have something really close to what you’re looking for.

This is the lowest price I'm able to find for a Jinbao 200...

I'm only offering information which I view as being directly related to your inquiry.
I'm not suggesting that you buy anything.

Re: Allora tubas?
Matt thank you, I am looking for a 4 valve tuba in almost new condition, or at least not all banged up like my ybb-321 has been. I do not mind a forward bell,(recording bell) at all. I will check out Dillons.matt g wrote: ↑Mon Sep 04, 2023 11:00 am @Thom, it might be more useful to outline what your tuba wants/needs are.

Re: Allora tubas?
Just to let you know, I am getting the Conn 4 valve, I used to play one in school and I really liked it. It is scratched a bunch, but looks like it is not dinged too much. Thanks again for the advice.Thom wrote: ↑Mon Sep 04, 2023 2:29 pmMatt thank you, I am looking for a 4 valve tuba in almost new condition, or at least not all banged up like my ybb-321 has been. @Thom, I’m happy that worked out well for you! Dillon is a good shop. Baltimore Brass is as well.

Re: Allora tubas?
I am not sure if it is a 36J, but I believe it is. The serial number is 218348, though. I will find out when it arrives in 7-10 business days. I started out thinking of getting a new Allora, but I got some good advice and thought better of it.
