Southeast Michigan or Northwest Ohio to be exact. I have a friend that recently purchased an early 1800’s Ophicleide. It’s in excellent condition and very playable. He is a reed guy but also plays trumpet quite well. He is hoping to find someone close in the area that may own and have experience playing ophicleide. He is hoping to get together and get some playing tips, pointers, etc.

Anyone in the the aforementioned area that fits that bill or now of someone that I could contact, I would greatly appreciated a lead.

I think JC Sherman (Cleveland) has done some ophicleide work. He has a former student in Findlay who might have dabbled with it.

JC I know plays serpent very well and also plays with Firelands Symphony. https://www.jcsherman.net/

I don't know about awfulcleides but JC made my cimbasso and I think has made a few other ye olde horns. Very nice guy who does excellent work.

I HIGHLY recommend reaching out to J.c. in Cleveland. I am a former student of his from Cleveland State University and I live in NW Ohio. I also did an apprenticeship with him for instrument repair. Unfortunately we didn't have time for him to teach me ophicleide, but I did buy a serpent and take lessons with him on that!

On a side note, we should play serpent/ophicleide duets sometime! Or play Symphonie Fantastique like Berlioz intended lol. Reach out if you'd like to chat. J.c. did teach me a lot about the ophicleide when we'd chat. tylerferris1213@gmail.com
