Violence ruins everything.

Post by bloke »

In the past, one thing that I really enjoyed doing annually (even if I had to s-q-u-e-e-z-e it in frantically between gigs) was the local TubaChristmas thing.

Maybe/hopefully in your town, it's still a perfectly safe thing to do.

Sadly, the place where it was formerly held locally was this place:

https://www.localmemphis.com/article/ne ... bcf2a2f6b6

...and the place it will be held - this year - is this place:

https://www.actionnews5.com/story/38124 ... concourse/

Call me a coward/"chicken"/reactionary/whatever, but I ain't goin'. :smilie6:

Some may be in denial, but this sort of thing is not the least of the factors why concert attendance (and we need "attendance" in order to have gigs) has been noticeable *dwindling...and some shouldn't fool themselves into believing that their city is much safer than this particular one...and certainly not with the recent agenda of electing DA's - across the nation - who reflect a non-prosecutorial p.o.v.

*I personally believe that a survey would reflect that most - who might otherwise consider concert attendance - don't particularly like the idea of their car being broken into, stolen, or having components removed from it, and - additionally - don't much care for the idea of being eyewitnesses to gunplay.

I think I'll finally be able to do the Valparaiso University TC again this year, I had conflicts the last two years. I'm still grateful I was able to move back to Indiana a few years ago, I had no interest in the Chicago TC when I lived there and sure as hell aren't making a trip just for that. My gf still lives there but at least she's in the NW part of the city, it's pretty peaceful there and it's a quiet area. That's still a problem though. Violent flash mobs can always get to where you are, particularly in a city. I saw some big riots working beach volleyball on North Avenue Beach. The group kept building and building until it just popped. All my players and I could do was stop the games and circle up. I saw a running 10 on 1 beat down and the bar in the boathouse locked their stairs.

It's been bad and will get worse. Just wait til the next omg scary thing is rolled out.

...is there any other kind of parking at the Kennedy Center?

Come up and join us at Westminster on 12/2. 2nd year for the event. We had 24 players last year.

Even better, hop on the bus with us to NYC on the 10th, for the 50th. We've declared the bus a no-violins, er, violence trip.

There used to be a garage at Watergate or walk over from Metro. I used to walk to Friendship Heights for Metro access. Used to.

Westminster is on my RADAR! :tuba:
