~sold~ Reynolds BBb Recording Tuba For Sale. $895 OBAO. $295 ground shipping to CONUS only. Located in Tucson, AZ.
Pictures here: https://tucson.craigslist.org/msg/d/tuc ... 69496.html
Made by F. A. Reynolds in Cleveland, OH in approximately 1949, S/N 205##. Good playable condition. Recently professionally serviced and cleaned. Takes standard/American shank mouthpiece (not included). The stand in the pictures is not included, and there is no case.
Large 5/4-size BBb tuba with removable 25" forward-facing bell. This was manufactured before Reynolds introduced the "Contempora" branding. There are several differences between this model and the later Contempora recording basses:
- The bell is 25" diameter vs. 23" for the later models.
- The valve caps, bow guards, bell guard and body ferrules are nickel-silver plated.
- The valve caps are a different style vs. the very "King-like" later ones.
- No first valve slide pull-push tuning mechanism.
This tuba is in good mechanical condition. The valves are quick, smooth, not too noisy and have good compression. The slides all move, some easier than others.
Cosmetic condition is what you see:
- Lots of small dings, scratches and a few medium dents.
- Evidence of prior repairs, including one patch on the leadpipe.
- Lacquer finish on inside of bell mostly intact.
- Bell rim slightly out of round.
- (not pictured) the bell tenon is very slightly out of round and requires a small amount of finagling to get into the bell collar. No worse than most of the removable bell tubas I've owned.
- A prior owner sprayed a faux antique "raw brass" patina on the body but left the slide ends and bell collar in lacquer. I think it looks pretty sharp.
- Everything except the thumb ring is original to the horn.
Specs per the Contempora Corner website:
Reynolds BB♭ Tuba (Recording Bass)
Bore: .687"
Bell: 25" adjustable, detachable front-facing bell
Weight: 28½ lbs
Height: 50½"
This is a large heavy tuba. Plays well with a big sound. The scale is as good or better than most three-valve horns.
Thanks for looking. Happy Holidays.
