Klingspor Tubas

Post by tubamarc8891 »

Has anyone here had experience with the Klingspor B6 6/4 BBb tuba? Or any of his other models?

I know he makes Gronitz branded tubas now but I haven’t heard anything about the instruments he makes under his name.

I have always loved the sound of large BBb tuba but haven’t encountered many of them in the US. :tuba:

Man… Getting one of those here would be a task!

Your best bet might be the Horn Guys. I think they carry Gronitz stuff.

I played the big BBb at Klingspor in Freiburg couple of years ago and it's a great instrument, I wouldn't mind owning one as my big tuba!
(Andreas is a nice guy as well!)

I would personally not buy any tuba like this without trying it though...

Thanks for your reply! How does it compare to a 197/2 or 195/2?

I just recently played his B4 (4/4 to 5/4 BBb) which is placed in the GR5x range (had a GR51 for a couple of years myself), his PBK and his piston F. I do not feel qualified enough for any advice, but I personally especially enjoyed the B4 very much and like his approach behind that tuba. For my ears, the B4 has a nice dark sound with a lot of core and definition and it's a no brainer regarding intonation. A good match of sound and size. And yes, Andreas is a nice guy! I had a rework done by him and have a restauration job pending.
