Tuba Solo, Brass Band, et al…

I got to play a solo with the Houston Brass Band. I was playing Bb on the concert, and I had a cold Eb waiting for me up front. It wasn’t perfect, but it was fun, and the crowd really liked it. And that’s fine with me.

If you like brass band music, check out the site. We already have tunes coming out from our recent concert. More to come.

The crowd really liked it and so did I! Excellent!

Thanks for sharing.

The quibble I usually have with tuba solos + band is that the tuba gets lost in the texture. Not here -- such crisp articulations and what a great punchy sound. Reminds me of a lesson I had with Gene where he said to overexaggerate every articulation you have with the tuba -- almost a mini fp on every attack -- because otherwise the clarity of sound tends to get lost in the hall. Your sound is definitely not getting lost in the hall! Fantastic job, this recording made my morning.

I bet you had fun with this, Doc. (Maybe not as much fun as at the brewery, though?) Are there lots of Eb bass solos in the brass band literature?

I’m trying to treat this like one of your play along by ear videos. The fiddly bits will take a few passes.

Just ignore the mistakes. :smilie8:

Yes, it was fun. And certainly not as fun as the brewery. 🍺🍺🍺

Well above my pay grade - bravo!

I get so nervous when solo parts come my way. Sometimes I nail them in practice and nerve up in front of the audience.
