large-ish concert tuba

Hello all,

Someday I'll actually get a start on my next project, so in the meantime I'll just ask questions about it!

I plan on using a 14K valveset to build a large-ish concert tuba. Are there any issues in using sousaphone sets when building "concert" horns?

The knuckles into the valve block need to be completely re-done to get the correct angle for a concert tuba compared to a sousaphone. That is a hell of a lot of hard brazing work.

Nope, as long as the tuba had 4+ valves, you'll be good.

Pasting them onto tubas (with little alteration) has an amateurish appearance (3rd slide upper return crooks/bows) due to the downward slant of them (designed to match the circular shape of a sousaphone body)...but whatever on that.

That's what I'm planning on doing for my next project as well. You can see the initial photos and thread I started about it HERE.

I acquired an extra 2nd valve to graft on as a 4th valve, plus another "empty" valve cluster (no pistons) to use for extra tubing/braces/etc. I took all the slides and everything off and will completely reassemble the valveset (without the "curly cue" third valve as @bloke mentioned). I plan on building a CC tuba out of it.
