For sale I have a Conn 20k (with the lady face engraving) from 1940. This horn plays amazingly, I prefer how this 84 year old horn plays over my schools brand new 40k's. I'm selling this horn because I have no use for a Sousaphone, and I'm saving up to get a bass tuba.
This horn is in good condition for its age, the plating is good over most of the horn, only having a few spots where it has been worn off on the bell and valve cluster. All of the valves move perfectly, and all of the slides move well. And the third valve slide water key has been replaced. The horn has a bunch of small dents on the bell flair, they are really just cosmetic and could be rolled out at a shop if you wanted them gone. The horn also just has general dents that you would expect from a Sousaphone of this age that spent most of its life in a school. there's a dent in the second branch where the guard moulding doesn't cover, that dent is very common in sousaphones, and it doesn't affect the playing because the tubing is so wide by that point in the instrument that it doesn't affect it at all.
The horn comes with a case, which I believe to be the original. It also comes with an aftermarket neck, but no tuning bits (you can find them online). This horn also only uses two bell screws as opposed to the more common three screws you would find on newer Sousa's. The horn is missing one of the bell screws, but stays perfectly in place with just the one screw, if you want another screw you can find them online easily.
I'm asking $3,300 for this horn. I am open to trades, I'm looking for a bass tuba, but if you have anything cool just make an offer and I will consider it. I'm located in Fort Worth, but I am willing to drive an hour or two if you want to meet up. I will also ship this horn at buyers expense.
