That's an interesting one there. It has the older style top caps and valve buttons, and the leadpipe is not removeable. Looks like and older "new" style. And someone added a water key on that 4th valve exit tube that always collects water (I did the same thing on mine).

I'd say that looks like a good deal!

I wonder if someone swapped the old detachable bell stack with a new style bell. Whatever the case, probably a nicer tuba than a newer one with all the removable bits on it.

Main slide ferrules are super-long.

I wouldn't do a conversion like that (and lacquer - even if B-grade lacquer) and sell it that cheap.

wild card: condition of the pistons/casings

That's the way they came when the "new" style was released. It was later that they gave them the Conn caps and the removable junk

Yeah, that’s like year one of the production line.

I’ve got one of the first ones and bought it new -so I know it hasn’t been altered by someone else. Mine doesn’t have a detachable lead pipe, but it also doesn’t have those valve caps. I’ve never seen those caps on any of the first ones I’ve seen -unless someone did it after purchase. I did add 2 additional spit valves to eliminate the King spin and changed the springs and felts to Yamaha.

That appears to be a good price (especially with the gig bag) if the horn plays well. I’d buy the Chronkhite case if they were selling it separately.
