Hi all,

I've recently come into possession of an early handmade pt-6, and am loving how it plays. I'm not quite sure exactly how old it is (seller told me between 1989-1992) and would love to know if any of y'all have more info it would be greatly appreciated.

Congrats! Those early PT6 are amazing, really a completely different instrument to the later ones.

Mine was 270xxx and from 1993. I loved it and regret selling it all the time.

There is a serial number list for B and S in that era that's pretty comprehensive. I think Robert Tucci and Berlinertuba either have a copy or know the person who does, they both post occasionally and are quite nice and helpful.

I will warn you that sometimes the parts got switched around. An anecdote: I had a 5 rotor PT5. The serial number was only on the receiver, 217xxx. However, when traced back to the list, that serial was for a piston horn, built in 1987. The 1987 was plausible, but someone must have switched the receivers at some point. Good luck!
