Hello all, i'm in the market for a Conn 3J CC. Budget is hoping to be between $1.5k-3K. Let me know what you have! I'm now interested in the 2J as well, or another option for a smaller ensemble instrument.

Though I am not certain when production actually began, it's possible (??) that I may have seen one of the first handful of those ever made (after Conn had weened themselves from the same-tooling-as-Olds/Reynolds
2J - as the Olds factory was being shuttered, at that time...).
Conn had flown Marty Erickson to stand in front of their booth at a regional Colorado/Kansas music educators' shindig (early 1979, I'm thinking...??)
Likely, he played a solo piece with some band, as well...
...I was paid to fly in (university plane), play in one band concert, play in one brass quintet concert, and be promptly flown back home...so I wasn't able to hang out or see much of anything...but the strategic placement of the Conn booth allowed me to "stumble across" it.
At that time in my life though I was doing a great deal of fancy-schmancy playin') I had NOT-AT-ALL (only: age 21) mastered the art of "giving an instrument what it needs". Thus a .658" bore tuba felt "foreign" to me, and I was not able to effectively/properly give it a go.
I hope you find a nice one !

Growing up in L.A. and hanging around at Larry Minnick's shop ALOT, I remember asking him the difference between the 2J and 3J. Besides the squared off crooks on the 3J as opposed to the rounded crooks of the 2J he referred to the 3J as the Mexi-Conn. I've owned both models over the years often at the same time. Hope you find a good one.
