UPDATE! Instruments have been found! Thank you to all who read and commented on this post.
Hello All,
Our friend David Winograd had his sousaphone stolen today, along with a bass drum just prior to a parade in Bearsville NY, which is just down the road from Woodstock, NY. It is a Conn BBb, bell-up (raincatcher), 3-valved sousaphone. It was silver plated at one time but it is mostly bare brass now. Also stolen was a blue marching bass drum.
Thank you to everyone in advance for keeping an eye out for these instruments! If you have any info, contact me directly at wputuba at gmail.com or through a private message here.
Best,
Paul Scott

Made this post a sticky so it stays at the top. Hopefully, this instrument is returned to its owner soon.

I can't imagine what I thief would do with either of those, and without either being quickly identified on some online picture.
...but thieves are - well - really dumb.

Re: Stolen Conn Raincatcher Sousaphone and Bass Drum
If they find they can't move it immediately. often they just sit on it for a year waiting for people to be less watchful. I've seen that twice locally, once with a set of bag pipes and once with a clarinet.
But you are right about dumb. The bagpipes were advertised and a smart person bought them for something like $20, traced down th owner and gave them back. The clarinet ended up in a music store and they contacted the owner.
I don't think that is going to happen with my violin.
