Re: Torpedo's Cronkhite eBay Store - UPDATE!!!
It's cool that it came with a free kitty cat! I have always thought it odd that the zipper pouch is on the same side as the backpack straps. It didn't used to be that way before the snap on music pouch. I might be mis-remembering. It seems to me that the zipper pouch and music folder would be more ...

Re: Yamaclone piston porting
I believe that pistons are actually hollow. There could be something inside it?

Re: POLL
That's what was sold in the US as an "S184" (iirc, might have been 184-S, but I recall the S being at the beginning in the catalogs, I could be wrong). It was one of the cheaper, less ornamented models. You can tell by the plain ferrules, the un-engraved valves, the plain brass valve slides, and the ...

Re: Yamaclone piston porting
another thought, if the bottom of the piston isn't flat where it touches the valve spring, I suppose the spring could become somewhat undamped. Ie, the circle of the spring might only touch on one side of the bottom of the valve and therefore the spring gets unintentionally canted. It might then ...

Re: Yamaclone piston porting
Since it follows the piston,
Is there anything that is possibly slightly loose on the piston?
Stem, valve guide, button, etc?
If you put light sideways pressure on the button while playing, does it still buzz?

I have had a valve spring buzz before. I'm wondering if you can play around with removing the 3rd spring and manually move the valve up and down and see if it goes away.

Re: I’m an idiot.
My Hirsbrunner does not have five rotors, and I don't think I've ever seen a HBS-193 that did. But it has an excellent low Eb on the alternative resonance, like most big tubas. Now you have, though it seems "obviously not factory": https://www.baltimorebrasscompany.com/p-7746-hb193-5v-kaiser-bbb ...

Re: Yamaclone F arrived!
I'm thinking that Yamaha reused the YEB-321 top-action valve block, when they began to build those instruments. To me, it seems just a bit funny (funny-ironic) that a copy would feature the same valve block (as it was built from scratch, and could have been something else). If it plays good, it ...

Re: Eastman 825 b flat
I'm curious as to how poorly I've mis-sized the 51 vs. the 825. I believe the Eastman pancake is wider, but probably by only an inch or so... Their prices don't seem to be that much different... https://i.imgur.com/3YXyIfo.png I've always thought these were the Bb brothers to the MW 5450. It wouldn ...

Re: New tuba: YCB-623
I have been told by another Yamaha artist that it is based on Jim Self's 1930s model York 4/4 CC tuba. I have played on an early 1920s York factory original 4/4 CC tuba (the same model Jacobs was willing to trade one of the CSO Yorks to Bob LeBlanc to use as his main horn). This horn is an amazing ...

Re: cutting Fat Bastard down to size (new posts/pictures Nov. 22)
One of the FEW things left (in the reconfig of all but the #2 circuit) is replacing two (now: only one) outside slide tube in the #4 loop (some minor inexplicable damage to both) and - at the same time elongating the UPPER #4 slide tubes (at the expense of the middle/intermediate #4 slide tubes ...

... It does require more air than the 183, and I find lungs sucked empty below the staff. I think the 183 is the first tuba I ever had where I had enough air to play it down low. Perhaps what I need to find is an even smaller throat mouthpiece. bloke 's new cimbasso/small tuba mouthpiece might be ...
Re: omg…
aw c'mon. tubas are funny.
I could see a kid watching that and thinking the tuba might be fun.

Re: New tuba: YCB-623
Based on a very small sample size of what I found online I 2 minutes, it seems like retail prices of Yamaha tubas are about 70% of the MSRP. So if MSRP is $17k, I'd expect a retail price a little less than $12k. I think "affordable" is a poor choice of words... More like "comparable" or ...

I think I heard the price tags was 17,000 (don’t quote me on the that.) I guess that’s smaller price tag than the Yamayork… Side note: I recently tried a yamayork, and I now realize why people play them. https://usa.yamaha.com/products/musical_instruments/winds/tubas/ybb-623/index.html MSRP over 15k ...
