Tweaking instrument production with software

Interesting. I wonder if the same thing could be done,
(?or is already being done?) with instruments in the tuba family.

I misunderstood. I thought you had seen that in a job posting. Like for an adjunct professor or something. It’s not out of the realm of possibility. 🙄😅

Re: Where to Study the Tuba?

I think this is an aspect of this that hasn’t really been addressed:
You said you were combining music and business. Depending on what you want to do, it might not be a bad idea to seek out David Fedderly and Patrick Sheridan. Pat Sheridan has a masters degree in business from the University of ...

Re: Three Decades of the Freak Jury

The earliest one I went to was around that time, maybe 2001/2002? Pat Sheridan played at the last concert, and as a friend of a son of a friend, I ended up at the after-party at some bar. I remember meeting a bunch of tuba guys who had zero clue who I was (and kinda/sorta, I didn't know them ...

…Ken Sloan was active on that list and would print name tags for those of us attending the Army Conference. He printed one for Roger Bobo when he was the headliner (in 2000), and presented it to him in the men’s room at Brucker Hall. Roger proudly wore that name tag for the whole weekend ...

Re: Three Decades of the Freak Jury

Who remembers Waldo's Tuba World? That predated TubeNet, going live in 1995, I think.

I don’t remember that one, but I do remember one around the same time that a man named Carl Webster ran. I don’t remember the title.
He does something very “higher up there” with computers, Cisco and/or ...

@the elephant If I in any way came across as contradicting you about the date, that was not my intent. I was simply stating the oldest post I could find on there. Apologies if it came across that way.

Re: Three Decades of the Freak Jury

I lived in Tennessee from 1986 until 2001, and then again in 2007, and Jim Self in LA and Jimmie E. Self, (which I assume he called himself to distinguish the two), at ETSU were still getting confused for one another even when I was in Tennessee, and Jim Self had long before that moved to
Los ...

www.chisham.com/tips/bbs/dec1998/messages/6968.html

I went back and looked, because I was curious.
The first post I could find was from November 23, 1998.
Sean Chisham archived all the old, old forum threads under “Tips“ on the old board.
My favorite post that I read while I was looking there was ...

I don’t know when Steve Bryant started at UT—he was there when I moved to Austin in 1981 (I worked with his wife at TxDOT). Sumner Erickson started in Pittsburgh in 1981 after one semester at Curtis, and Steve always claimed him as a private student, so he had to have been there for at least a few ...

There were a total of 5 finalists in the audition, the three mentioned plus Derek Fenstermacher and Chrisjovan Masso. 20 musicians were in the semifinal round.

Thanks for the clarification on the number and names of the finalists. Like someone said about the previous
National Symphony audition ...

Re: St. Louis Symphony Orchestra

This makes a lot of sense. I remember calling an orchestra after the final audition for their tuba opening and asked them who won the audition. The personnel director informed me that the winner was "so-and-so." I said, great, "so-and-so" got the job, to which the personnel director replied ...

Seth Carter for the win....

Aaron Tindall for the win, too. He has an insanely good track record of students winning major auditions lately.
His post on Instagram said that not only the winner, Seth Carter, but also the other two finalists for this audition,
Charley Pollard and Diego Stine ...

Big shoes to fill after William Bell, Harvey Philips and Dr. P. They took their time filling the position after Dr P retired last year- so they must have found the guy to carry on that distinguished legacy of excellence. Congrats to Matt. Hope he’s as funny as Dr P was. Never laughed as hard as I ...
