Re: Lewisville, TX GovDeals: YBB-641
I think it's ridiculous that frigging middle schools are buying full size, 4v tubas. 4/4 4v tubas are better for high school and college and beyond. Kids are just learning to play in middle school. Back when I was in middle school, we had an old beat up YBB 102 (long discontinued model) and a King ...

It could also be that yellowish foam used in padding, taped to the upper loop. I'm thinking the upper loop was maybe digging into the player's chest area while in play, so yellow spongy foam was taped to it to pad it a bit. I dunno :smilie5: Also, the big brace connecting the bell with the upper ...

Re: Holton Del Negro BB-flat tubas
Do you think perhaps B&S piston tubas got some inspiration for their slide layout from the old Holton Del Negro model?
Or just coincidence? Either way, I see similarities

Re: Here’s a fun one for the TFFJ!
This one is in better cosmetic condition than mine, and seems to have the latest angled 3b miniball linkage. It looks stock to me. Mine has the L-joint / miniball linkage combo. Mine isn't as pretty, but it has a smaller mouthpipe floated off the bell, lower, and different 5th valve tubing set-up ...

^ Bloke posted that King monster 5v Eb in the main section. If I had the money and need, I'd snap up that King. I have a soft spot for old American monster Eb tubas with at least 4 valves. Made my own Franken Eb (Holton body, HN White/King 4-piston valveset, Inverted Yamaha mouthpipe) 8-ish years ...

Re: Keebay...
That’s in E flat, not enough branches. It was a quality instrument in its day, but $1,525 is way too high as far as I’m concerned. If the winning bidder is expecting a BBb horn, they are going to be mightily disappointed. It's now over $2000, with 3 and a half days left....all for a Keefer monster 3 ...

Tubatodd, is that a pearlescent paint with gold on the bell edge?
Looks like it. Nice!
Pearlescent and metallic paint look great on fiber sousas

Re: POLL !!! - pebble finish sousaphone
Yeah, I voted satin white. But still prefer metallic paint (silver or titanium) for fiberglass sousas. :smilie8: That would clash with the brass tubing. Satin White. I disagree. If anything, stark white or other non-metallic colors clash worse with the brass valveset tubing. Metallic ...

Re: Helene - everyone okay?
^ Yes, western NC (Appalachian mountains) was hit very hard. Boone, Asheville, Chimney Rock all had lots of flooding and damage. Part of I-40 was washed out and will need to be rebuilt. The town of Chimney Rock was literally washed away and completely destroyed. Back in the day (1980s - 1990s) as a ...

@catgrowlB Hi, did you find the King or Cleveland you were looking for? If not, were you looking to buy or for a trade? I have a fiberglass King sousa but I'm looking for a Conn since I think it'll fit me better :fingerscrossed: Hi, I'm in central North Carolina. I do have an old brass Elkhart-era ...

Main tuning slide is missing its cross brace, and the shoulder plate is gone from the upper branch. But seems like a decent deal for an old 20k.

Still using my (2) wire stands for home practice and my Manhasset Voyager for outdoor/needed gigs. The sheet music on the stand act like a sail on light wire stands, making them much more prone to topple over than the heavier, more durable Voyager. And like I've said before, I have extenders ( Stand ...

Re: stands
I use my nice Manhasset Voyager stand (with extenders and in a carry bag) for outdoor gigs or when needed. I also tend to use plexiglass sheets over my music on outdoor gigs. The various wire stands are just too light/flimsy, and prone to falling over on typical gigs. Cheap wire stands are OK for ...
