Re: BEST type of glue for ABS plastic...??

The old model stuff was probably Xylene. It is difficult to come by anymore because we it is extremely toxic at low inhaled doses. I use it for some special applications at work but always in a fume hood.

Re: Bloke: PLEASE IGNORE (valve oil related)

I have been using the BERP Bio-Oil.. Not because it is non-petroleum, eco-friendly, safer than humans or pets etc advertising reasons. I like it because they publish their viscosity data and their heavy stuff works really well on my old sousaphones with worn valves. It is thicker than anything else ...

Re: BEST type of glue for ABS plastic...??

Don’t use adhesive. You can just solvent weld ABS with a little acetone.

If you really want a “glue” the stuff for PVC plumbing pipes “Oatey Pipe Cement” will work well. They make a special version for ABS but I think the regular stuff should work just as well.

Got the remnants in Ohio.. Neighbor had a huge oak tree come down in their house. Luckily it crushed the spare bedroom so no injuries.

Re: Mouthpiece for a Smaller student.

My son started on 6th grade on a Bach 25 and it fit him very well. Smaller diameter and smaller throat. Didn't suck the wind out of him.

Braces for Blessing Marching Baritone

So I recently bought a trashed Blessing M-300 Marchigin Baritone with the Bauerfeind valves. It was listed as a parts horn but the valveset and block were in good shape. It was a school horn and as bloke would say the "young scholars" did a real number on it. The sellers photos cleverly obscured the ...

It is a great price but the 16.5" bell makes it an early model or progenitor of the model 20 not 25.

Re: stands

I know absolutely nothing about the trials and tribulations of orchestral players and librarians when it comes to managing music. I recently switched to a tablet and foot pedal setup and it has been fantastic for my playing. The street band I'm in has over 200 charts in the active library.. and just ...

Re: Practicing and using false tones

OhTubaGuy The low range is no problem on the 20. I do have to pull 1st for the Eb and a long pull on 3rd for the pedal C line you said but I've no complaints about it. Don't worry not going to be asking for my money back. It was more of a general question. I'm trying to dedicate some practice time ...

Practicing and using false tones

Just out of curiosity... Who here actually regularly practices or utilize false tones? I use them all the time on Sousas (BBb and Eb).... but I never practice or use them on either my BBb or Eb "proper" tubas. I just tried on the MW 20 and they were weak and really difficult to find. Do any of you ...

Re: Cool find (non-tuba): 1958 Reynolds Contempora "large" bore tenor trombone

I always thought the "R" counterweight looked cool. There is one on Ebay right now with both a valve section and handslide... too rich for my blood though. https://www.ebay.com/itm/256531564694?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=t2IApPfhQRS&sssrc=2047675&ssuid=eqG90feUSQe&widget_ver ...

Re: stands

My main requirement for a travel rehearsal/gig stand is "Can it support a pint of beer (in a proper glass pint) and a bottle of water along with my music?" I don't like having to bend over with a sousaphone to pick up my beverage up off the ground between charts.

Re: Protec sousaphone gig bag *shrug*?

Amateurs are more prone to accessorizing than professionals. 100% agree. I didn't mind spending money on my hobbies. Actually I should say the money and time spent on musical pursuits had brought me great joy and had helped keep me sane through since difficult times. The calculus of spending money ...

Re: Protec sousaphone gig bag *shrug*?

I am not going to wade into the brass vs fiberglass debate. My Sousas are brass but they are both 1950s and predate fiberglass horns. Really the bag is a nice convenience for carrying/storage rather than protection. It fits better into the backseat of my car. I can wear it backpack style, instead of ...

Sold - Euphonium Case

Labeled as a small tuba case, but from dimensions should fit a euphonium with upright valves. Looks to be in good condition. Local pick up only.
