Current MP options

Ok, in 1995 I knew it all, but nowadays it feels like there are dozens of options for great mouthpieces. I have a smaller frankenhorn in Eb that I’m wanting to experiment with. I have played on a Wick 3SL for about 4 years on it, but it just has never felt right. My Schilke HII plays well in the mids and lows, but gets really woody in the uppers. What suggestions do you have? This is mostly a chamber/solo horn. 16 inch Buescher Bell, and a King valve set (not sure the bore, I believe it’s from a Sousa originally. Great horn, just want the matching MP! Thanks for the tips!

I've been having a lot of success with my Sellmansberger Solo on my Holton-ish medium Eb.. 32.3mm rim and #2 shank seen to work best on that particular one for me. The small bore reacts week to the slightly more open throat.

I am having good response, articulation, and ease of upper register with my Aaron Tindall/Denis Wick AT3UY. I have been playing more brass quintet gigs lately, and I have been playing them on my Jupiter JTU1110 BBb when indoors and my Conn 36K when outdoors. I do not own an Eb nor F tuba. It is a surprising mouthpiece that plays with more accuracy than a person may think with its middle-of-the-road specs: rather deep cup, contoured rim, 32.8 mm cup i.d., 8.2 mm (P drill) throat:

Bobo Solo rips on bass tubas. Very small mouthpiece. Sort of fatiguing until you get used to it. But sings in the high register and produces a great low register on a bass tuba (i.e., it doesn't produce a contrabass-tuba-lite low register and doesn't work well on contrabass tubas). When I first had it I would still use my Helleberg for chamber music, but after a while I stopped switching, and the Bobo is my sole F tuba mouthpiece, and I have no complaints.

Sellmansberger Solo, lots of options to fine tune.

Maybe an RT/PT 65 or 64

Maybe a Miraphone C4 or C3 (have to look up the current TU number equivalents).

Maybe a Laskey 28k, 28F, or 28C - the C might be he most shallow / aggressive if memory serves well, but you may want to look into the three cup styles.

EVERYBODY: It is not just the cup diameter or depth. To focus the higher range the mouthpiece must have the proper throat diameter for the player's breath support and the proper backbore that will focus everything into the tuba.

Don't overlook the Mercer and Barker range, something for most flavour of tubas.
