Re: WTB: Besson New Standard BBb (4v)
I currently have one that is getting tweaked in the shop that should be available under $2000 after he gets done with it. I am located in Indianapolis. If that is of interest, send me an email at Trippb@sharpusa.com and communicate easier than through this if you like. Thanks, Bernie Thanks Bernie ...

WTB: Besson New Standard BBb (4v)
I am looking around for ideally a Besson New Standard BBb with 4 valves, and or a Boosey Imperial BBb with 4 valves.
The 'just pre-Sovereign' type would be perfect. 19 inch be would be amazing.
If anyone has one, or sees one, let me know.

'original mouthpiece' for a 1950s Imperial tuba
I love my 1950s Imperial BBb bass (with three valves and a brilliant 17 inch bell). I play it with a Wick 1 and we make beautiful music together. I think it is the most in-tune tuba I've played. Does anyone know what the standard mouthpiece-of-the-time would have been? Did it come from the factory ...

i think playing bagpipes in a highland pipe band would be excellent.
i have seen some 'massed bands' doing scotland the brave / amazing grace / other cool stuff on youtube. pretty epic!
articulating with my fingers would also be perfect for my current technical ability...

Re: Eb Tuba Mouthpiece question
i use a denis wick '2' in my Imperial BBb 3 valve compensator... i think it's around 1954-ish. the cheapest place i could get it from (including all the shipping stuff) was https://www.thomann.de (i find the 2 a little bit too narrow for my fat lips. i really want a pt-50 that's got a little shank ...

Re: Sovereign BBb (or, "it's not too late to compensate")
thanks for your replies! i am delighted with my old 3 valve imperial BBb with a 17 inch bell...i just want 4 valves and a 19 inch bell (i wouldn't say no to a 24inch bell, like on a conn 25j). i've never seen an imperial in that configuration, they must be quite rare...if anyone has one for sale let ...

Sovereign BBb (or, "it's not too late to compensate")
hi forum (sorry this is a bit targeted to brass bandies) does anyone have experience with newer sovereign BBb basses made in the past ~10 years or so? i've played one from the 80s that was really bad, and one from the early 2000s that was quite good. has anything changed much? i see that the current ...

Re: vintage tuba illness
i have had a nice time with some old boosey + hawkes imperial tubas. if you are into that sound concept and enjoy compensating with 3 valves (sometimes 4) they are often really nice players! 17 inch bells for BBbs and 15 inch bells for the EEbs. complete with nice engravings. (i admit fully to grass ...
