Many, many years ago, I used automobile finish rubbing compound to lap some slides. It worked nicely. You have to be able to judge when to stop, wash everything out, and see what you have. You either stop at that point or go again. What method do you use and why?

Just wondering what finish options were offered on York tubas 1900-1930?
My York engraving does not show traces of satin within the engraving. The horn was silver at one time but is now bare brass. I don't see traces of satin.
So, was brite silver finish offered during that time frame?

i like my horn to look old- primarily brass band & vintage jazz gigs on this horn.
The faux finish is with rust-oleum. The hand-hammered colors. I spay two colors at once and blend with a rag dampened with mineral spirits.

What method was mentioned a few months ago - best cleaner for green lime build up? I have acquired a horn that was not played for 10-12 years. When I finally got the slides off, the brass interior was solid green.

I have a miraphone BBb late 50s vintage. 4 rotors. I think it is a 185, but it could be a 184. I have plans to sell it, but I need some time to figure out what it is. It has been lacquered and is in great playing condition.
