I had a much longer break than planned. After the music charity events came the whole house came down with the flu (18 month old first kid, so not that surprising). I ended up missing both Christmas concerts.
For charity ended up raising around 750 USD this year. Here is a clip from the first day ...

Re: Respond in agreement, respond in disagreement, or lurk.
Everyone is different?
Disagree from my experience.
I got a tip that the gnagey works with a larger throat, so ordered an AMH Paul and found my high range is as good as mouthpieces with a smaller throat.
From my plethora of mouthpieces, I tend to find centering of notes to differ more than my ...

Re: What did you play today?
@Dopy, What a great idea. If I lived in a city I would pursue something like that. It can be cold enough here that I might need a portable tuba heater if there is such a thing. But in Seattle, Washington where I lived many years it would be great.
Thanks! The charity is named Musikhjälpen which ...

Re: Playing in cold weather...
Past few years playing for musikhjälpen i've played in -10C and below. First year had the same, valves froze up quickly.
What worked best for me was stealing hair ties from my partner, and hand/footwarmers. Strap several around the valve casing. Not had an issue since.

Thanks all for the tips.

Endurance
I plan to reach out for lessons locally, specifically lifting this topic but I thought I'd ask here as well.
I am an adult amateur player. Ever since returning I have found myself 'losing my lip' by the end of rehearsals. At first I thought this was natural lack of endurance that would return with ...

Ofcourse made mistakes and painfully aware of them, but also played some parts best i've played. Grateful they ever ask for me to play a a soloist, and really pushes ...

Re: AMH Paul Mouthpiece - But stainless?
After my own research, I ended up finding the mercer and barker line of mouthpieces. These had some larger bore's closer to the Paul, and quite reasonably priced.
Going to give the M4W a try :) Worse case yet another mouthpiece on the shelf.
At some point can one consider these investment assets?

Re: AMH Paul Mouthpiece - But stainless?
I was always taught that if you cannot home in on a mouthpiece for a horn that it is likely not the mouthpiece that is your issue; the horn is the issue.
Heh I think you nailed it.
Two things:
* My self claimed my own lack of ear, and self consciousness around it. I do not get complaints ...

Medium sharp inner rim
Rim: 7.3 mm

I don't get what you would need wifi for if the music is on the tablet. What concept am I missing?
I don't have wifi in my house. I have a wired internet connection and my phone is a phone and doesn't go online.
It is for loading music 'onto' the tablet that you'd want some sort of connection ...

I play in two community brass bands, one is more competitive than the other.
Really only seen 2 people using digital tablets, a few times they've been stuck holding up the group trying to find the specific song we were going to play (number X from Y book).

Wessex Customer Service is Great
Hi,
I think this is allowed, if not sorry :X
I just wanted to give credit where it is due, and recognize Wessex as having really great customer service.
I bought my gnagey several years ago, and on a few occasions I needed/wanted some smaller items to service it. Springs, valve guides, and most ...
