I hung mine outside on a summer day + cleaner + water hose. Did multiple passes.
Couldn't smell the cat pee anymore, and he never peed on it again.. so take it as a success.
This was a wessex gig bag.

Re: What are you practicing?
A piece called 'As Time Goes By'. My first time being a soloist. It's with a local brass band I play EEb in. Had the first run through last night and while I still have lots of practice to do, was positive comments from the band :) Find myself rereading the classic tubenet post about playing high on ...

Re: Musings On Learning E♭ Tuba
I changed to Eb as an adult after not playing for a decade+. I grew up playing BBb - Cerveny 681 specifically. One mistake I made was buying a 3+1 combination Eb. I hated it. I never found the +1 to be natural or enjoyed it. I ultimately sold it and bought a 4+1 front facing piston. I can't give ...

Re: What's going on in your head when you're playing?
I had a conversation about this a few months ago and walked away a bit concerned :) A fellow musician(better than I) made a comparison to the skill for kicking a soccer ball vs reading/playing music. I didn't understand that comparison as I felt kicking/aiming a soccer ball happens 99% unconsciously ...

Re: Recording in your apartment - How good can it get?
Well I ended up going with a Sennheiser e902. I am still playing around with location, but so far have settled on having it nearly vertical in the corner, as high as the desk clamp/stand allows. It is a very different sound than the H4N1 and combining I think I am starting to like how it sounds ...

Re: Tuba Shank Sizes
This is an old gem that is often referenced.
Really dumb question.
What is the effect from using the wrong mouthpiece size compared to shank size?
If the MP shank is too large it won't go in 'as far'. But does that mean you'll be flat? Make it impossible to tune partials?

Re: Tuba Pressure Device
I'd be interested in that, but maybe someone will bring one to the Army workshop (assuming it happens) and I can try it out before paying 74 bucks. Rick "always uses too much pressure" Denney Ah yeah it was a bit pricey. It's very simple. Just a spring inside the larger end which you can adjust the ...

Tuba Pressure Device
Anyone ever use one of these or similar? https://www.thomann.de/intl/arnolds_sons_practice_adapter_tuba.htm I accidentally ordered one thinking it was more a burpee type device for buzzing at my desk while working from home. I didn't think I used too much pressure. But when I just tried it I ...

Re: Recording in your apartment - How good can it get?
I definitely agree and the largest improvements in the quality reside on me. The fact these recordings are so harsh does it make it easy to find where to improve -- and if you can make it sound good at home it'll sound amazing at the concert hall. I Have no doubt many of you could record in my ...

Re: Recording in your apartment - How good can it get?
Thank you for all the great feedback! Some really great tips, I had never heard the mirror comment before. I will experiment this evening with more placement. I think I will record video of my living room and roam around to different playing places, and different mic places. Then listen to it all. I ...

Re: Recording in your apartment - How good can it get?
Have you tried moving yourself as well? That is, putting yourself in one corner and the mic in another? Likely it won’t matter much if your room is small. There probably aren’t enough trapped modes in that room. I have, minimal effect. Even walked around my apartment, to my ear the bathroom sounds t ...

Recording in your apartment - How good can it get?
This is more a personal experiment than a good idea or wise investment. Most of my playing is at a local church with a local brass band. Really love 'my' sound when warming up before rehearsal, etc. Is it possible to capture that sound when playing in an apartment? Today I have an H4N which I've ...

Re: Optimum number of horns
heh, like to have is certainly n+1 or atleast freedom to have one big, one small, of each key and maybe anything unusual that catches one's eye. In reality, my Wessex Gnagey Eb 4v+t can/will meet any demands I will have playing wise -- Brass band and Dixieland. The largest limiting factor is the ...

Air 'Leaks' when trying to maintain a buzz without a mp?
What better time for a 'I need help' thread :) I tried to type this up a few months ago, but realized it sounded extremely strange and probably all in my head and deleted it. Let's try again.. I am the typical played in college, not played much since, playing again person. I also have picked up a ...
