Re: Stolen Instrument- W. Washington

I understand you already have an insurance settlement. But please, follow up and don’t let these s.o.b’s profit from selling stolen goods. If eBay knows it’s stolen because you reported it, I’m surprised the axis still up!

Re: "We don't repair *that* brand"

It was a brand that WWBW used to sell as their cheapest line Which is why buying the cheapest instruments is counter productive in the long run. The instrument plays fine, it just got dropped on the bell. Has nothing to do with which factory it came from. I understand that. My point was that when ...

Re: Finish issue

This is precisely why I don’t like silver plated horns. Your first instinct was correct. It IS brass peeking through. Silver plate is much thinner than most people realize, and the vast majority of silver “polishes” remove material each time you use them, either through abrasion or chemically. Hone ...

All I said was “I wish it was closer”. Geez! :facepalm2:

An impromptu vacation sounds interesting, but with present life circumstances, not in the cards. I would definitely check the horn out if I could reasonably drive to try it out.

Re: FS- Miraphone 182

I can't find the model on the Miraphone website - nor much mention of it anywhere on the web (other than the past offering of this same instrument for sale, and this offering). I'm guessing that the 282 replaced it...?? I raved (here) over the 282, recently... I don't "need" something like that ...

Re: more blokes-phemy re: more sacred cows

I did have friends who were euphonium majors when I was in college in the 70’s. A Besson 3+1 compensator, VERY preferably in satin silver, was what you HAD to have back then. I really believe that, in spite of all the faults you pointed out, they were popular because they were the best available AT T ...

Hirsbrunners were the first ones I remember seeing.

Re: Allora tubas?

The Dillon version of that horn is about $300 cheaper. The Mack Brass version is almost $700 cheaper. Plus buying from either of those would include the tuba being checked over before being sold. I don’t think that’s true with WWBW.

Re: Allora tubas?

No advice for you other than yes, it is definitely Chinese, and that you can probably find the same or close to the same tuba from other sources for less money. Check Dillon and Mack Brass store brands. Also see what kind of deal you can get from our bloke (Midsouth Music) on a John Packer version.

This is a screaming deal! Bargain even if it only included the horn, but then all those accessories! Kudos to whoever scoops this up.

I kinda like the plain ferrules! Understated elegance.

Re: Yamaha YBB-321 approximate value

Dealers are getting around $8100 brand new, and that’s street, not MSRP. So you’re coming in at less than 1/2 new, so you did ok. One that the new one includes hard case and if you didn’t get that it’s a bit less than a good deal because separately cases cost 700-800. Used, for an example in reasona ...

Re: bloke rant warning: more on - government waste

Bloke- I find myself in agreement with just about everything in your post. As a former 1970’s drum corps alumnus, I can attest to the nearly indestructible quality of the chrome plating on the old bugles, along with the uniquely different tone quality achieved by an ensemble of brass in the key of G ...

She’s a beauty! Whoever did the restoration did a good job. I love the smokestack bell! It sort of looks like it was designed primarily to be used with the recording bell, with the upright bell added as an afterthought. I wonder what the original hard case on these was like. Did they come with a 2 p ...

Re: attn. doublers: NOLA Engelhardt bass

These are steamed to shape mass produced plywood instruments aimed at the school orchestra market. Years ago they were made in the USA but not sure if that’s true anymore. The used one in the listing is overpriced in my opinion. 900 or so maybe. The plywood construction stands up to a good bit of a ...
